Touraine was once a French province, located in the middle of the land around the river Loire. The capital of Touraine wash ours. In 1790 the province was divided among the departments of Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher and Indre. These departments now part of central France region.
The Touraine name is derived from a Gaulish tribe, the Turones. The area is known for its vineyards and numerous castles.
